Can't see files to "open" in Affinity Photo

Affinity does not support .doc files.

Publisher, and perhaps Photo (for some uses). will support .docx files, however.

Ok...but why did the files change to doc files?  Obviously...if I've used the files before...as I stated...they were not always doc files.

It's a bit disconcerting to get responses that just look at a small portion of what is there.

ok...so...

I have come up with the following:

I upgraded the storage on onedrive.  Apparently. in doing so I get the Microsoft Office Suite.  Which I could not care less about.  It downloaded on my laptop and changed my files?

Can they be changed back?

I'm not going to waste time complaining about this happening...  I just need my files.

Help would be appreciated.

Installing the office suite would not change your files that way. Nothing if Affinity would make that kind of change, either.

The most likely explanation I can think of is that you're looking in the wrong folder.

What file type(s) were they?

it's the same folder...the only one, in fact.  I had been given this folder a year or so ago...  I've used the templates many times.

Unfortunately, with 1.9, I have started to decrease unnecessary layers to avoid a potential crash.  So, once I lay the grid markers, I've been deleting the template.  Therefore, I can not locate in an .afp file.

They certainly weren't .doc when you used them. I'm not even sure you could have used .docx for that purpose in Photo. Perhaps in Publisher.

When you open one of them in Word or any other application that supports .doc files, do they have the content you were expecting?

Copy one of the files and try changing the extension to.jpg and see if that will open.

The Affinities are not supporting .doc.

But it is interesting why the doc files are associated with APhoto (see icon)!

Yes, but easily explained if Nita used Open With from File Explorer and said to always use Affinity Photo.

I didn't change anything

In my opinion, this points to an error/confusion in the control and management of the files.

Just for interest - could you put one of your *.doc files here (from the first screenshot)? Whether it's really a *.doc (Word) format, or some renamed JPEG/afphoto file.

Using "open" in Affinity Photo, there were no files in a folder.

Since I've already used a doc in this folder...several times...this made no sense.

Looked with Windows Explorer...and the files are there.

How was this information from the first post meant, where do you talk about "doc"? Is it a general terms for document, or a specific *.doc file (MS Word document)?

If it was a renamed image file AP would open it.  It doesn't have to be a .doc file though.

Just right-clicked and save as...

On my Windows 10 computer, if I browse a directory using File Explorer, and right-click on a file, there is no "Save As" option provided.

Where did you do that right-clicking, and can you give us a screenshot of whatever application that was, and the right-click menu you used?

On my Windows 10 machine, I can save Word or Excel files in many different formats.  NONE of the them are photo related including .jpg, .tiff, etc.  I took my photo related files and right clicked. I can only save them as .jpg files.    I know you loaded your template files into Affinity before with no issues.  I am sorry that I can't explain what happened.  We are missing something.
