Hello Affinity Community,

We hope you kindly accept this suggestion and request,
As you know, Affinity has a lot of impact on the people in the Middle East area.

Accordingly, It would be quite nice to support the RTL writing direction for languages such as Arabic, Hebrew and Persian.

Kind Regards,

I don’t understand why voting was suggested in the Twitter thread. Serif have always made it very clear that new features are not added purely on the basis of the number of users supporting their introduction.

yes it is clear (if enough users wish for this feature it may be implemented)

If you demand a "vote", even though Serif has repeatedly stated, that similar referendums have no meaning in his decision-making, I am voting against the implementation of the RTL. I won't use it in any way, so I'll be happy if the features that most users use are implemented.

As a big fan of Affinity's programs, and since I work on it on a daily basis, I always wished that Affinity photo would support writing in Arabic without the need for external programs, and every time a new update was issued, I expected Arabic writing to be supported in it, I hope this post will communicate our voice. And to finally get the awaited update

Just for the sake of interest, a lot of votes on this topic have been uttered and quite a long time ago.

A lot of people need and work with LTR Indic scripts. A lot of people would like Korean, Polish and Romanian to be available as interface languages. A lot of people can’t wait to see support for footnotes and endnotes. A lot of people want ...

I didn’t say I’m not interested in RTL! I was simply pointing out that arguing in favour of a particular feature because a lot of people need or want it is not going to get us anywhere.

Nor is you arguing that it is not getting us anywhere, not helpful at all.!

I fully endorse the calls for RTL support in the Affinity apps, but there have been many threads about this and it has been made abundantly clear to us that such a feature will not be added in the near future. Serif added support for Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and one or two other RTL language for version X5 of some of their ‘legacy’ software products, but they depended on outside help and they dropped the feature for subsequent releases.

You can't compare the new Affinity apps, to the old Serif Plus programs.

Affinity is very popular in the ME, even before supporting RTL. once RTL is implemented, Affinity will be the standard in graphic design very fast.

Can't wait to see Hebrew Support as part of the Affinity Feature set.

I am sure it's not that complicated adding this to the Text tool.

Let's consider Arabic and Persian: it is undoubtedly more difficult than LTR English as Arabic is cursive. If the letters are not joined when they are supposed to, it is a fault. There is the HarfBuzz library, which is certainly a big improvement on what was available before, and seems to be the 'go to answer' for anything RTL these days. Even so, it has its quirks. When trying to set poetry I continually end up with inconsistent kashidas.

Think about it. Affinity would have have a developer who knows about text handling, but who also knows about RTL text handling. Even somebody who is very competent with LTR languages programming would likely be lost with RTL.

I look forward to the day when Affinity does have RTL, but I am not holding my breath.

J.
