boolean operation "subtract" on text

Recommended Posts

I´d like to cut out (subtract) WORLD from HELLO.

When using "subtract" I get a wrong result: WORLD is included in HELLO and not cutted out; I've tried it with text and curve-converted text.
When I do it with normal shapes (e.g. rectangles) I get the appropriate result1493160178_Bildschirmfoto2021-03-01um20_26_33.thumb.png.37d345f9128d9e205fe2722211dfde71.png

You are right in trying it with the text converted to curves.  When you do it you can not use groups though.  You will have to expand the groups or ungroup them then select the H W O R L D.  The H must be the lowest in the layer panel.  If after doing all this it still doesn't look to have worked go into the menu Layers>Fill mode and make sure the Alternate is selected.  It should then be working.

hello Gear Maker,

many thanks for your repley ... ungroup etc I know..., but the fill mode was new to me and with Alternate selected it works fine

but I think this workflow is new in 1.9; I haven't have this issue before; when I use normal shapes I get the right result without selecting Alternate filling

many thanks for your input and the file! - it works for me like a workaround, but it works 😀

but... I'm afraid it's a bug; when I draw a H-shape  and a W-shape it works without any compounds and filling mode. Just marking the shapes and choosing "subtract" - ready

If you draw an H-shape, it will have Alternate fill mode, whereas an H from a font will have Winding fill mode and hence the different result when an object is subtracted from the drawn shape versus the font glyph.

Try set Blend mode to Erase for text layer with World.
