Can not re-open files

hello

recently I have not been able to re-open my saved work. once I'm done with editing, I'll use (save as,) but when I try to re-open my work I'll get a pop up reading " Failed to open file the file is not supported" is this an issue with affinity photo?

The screenshot has a different message -- instead of not supported, it says "The file was not found." Which is correct?

Also, the file path seems odd in that ~/Library/Containers is not a folder intended for saving user documents.
