Can't select Parts of Image pasted into Affinity

I want to select some parts of the pasted in Image - to delete them

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Look in the Layers panel, and check the kind of layer you're dealing with.

You'll probably find you have an (Image) layer, not a (Pixel) layer. To operate on parts of it, you need to rasterize it. Right-Click on it in the Layers panel and choose Rasterize. Or use the menu Layer > Rasterize.

Select image  -> layer - Rasterize

Don't work.. select the image and it's still just one big selection square

Still cannot access part of the image

The other problem is I can't even draw a circle around an object ... there is no circle tool like in every other paint program ?

Seems like a Great program but it's starting to piss me off

You will need to go to the Pixel Persona. That will give you different tools which will work with the pixel layer you now have.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Did the personas thing

Gave me different tools along the left side .. BUT

Don't work either

drag a screen shot into affinity

Try to select a part of the image

no go ...

I'm prolly going  back to a simple paint program that lets you just select part of an image and has a circle and a rectangle tool that lets you create a border around a selected area.

Rasterize the layer, as @walt.farrell said above, to get the "pixel" layer.
When you drag an image into the program window, in an open document, it will be an "image" type layer. The "image" layer allows you to quickly replace the image in the layout.

How are you trying to select?

Can you give us a complete screenshot of your workspace, including the Layers panel, rather than the pieces you've given us so far?

It looks like you are using the Move tool. Try instead using any of the four marquee selection tools, the Selection Brush Tool, or the Freehand Selection Tool, all of which can be found in the Pixel Persona of AD. Note also the various items on the context toolbar that allow you to add to or subtract from the selection, to turn on & off anti-aliasing, etc.

Thanks for trying to help

I'm OUT

This program is not Intuitive at all and I need something like photoshop and illustrator where I can call support and have them

log onto my machine and solve the issue

Cheap is NICE .. but Frustration is expensive .. I'll gladly pay more  to stop this type of frustration

I buy all Apple products too , because of the support ... and Cubase because of the tech support

I make an exception only for native instruments stuff ...and I don't like any company that charges me 1300 bucks for a program and NO SUPPORT .

At least affinity is cheap .. but it's definitely not for me .

You seem to be selecting the Image first. Have you tried Layer >Rasterize without selecting? You can deselect with Ctrl-D.

Select the layer, but not the Image.

Hi,

I have the same issue. It does not work, even after deselecting and rasterize. It even says (Pixel) for this layer.

Thank you for you help,

Joe

EDIT: I fixed it. DOCUMENT -> Convert Format / ICC Profile, change colour format to one of the three first RGB. Now I can enter develop persona.

Welcome to the forums, and good to hear you solved your problem.

A bit confused at your solution, though. The color format, and the ability to enter the Develop Persona, has nothing to do with the discussion in this topic.

(It's certainly a solution for a different problem, but not the one we've been discussing :))
