markbowen
Hi, Was just wondering why the pinch tool makes the image larger and the punch tool makes it smaller? When you pinch something it gets smaller not bigger surely? Imagine pinching a cushion and everything bunches up getting smaller at the point of the pinch. Am I going mad or are these back to front? Also one other thing whilst using the live liquify layer it seems that the before and after split slider doesn't do anything? The image looks the same in the before as it does in the after? Thanks, Best wishes, Mark Quote https://www.instagram.com/mbphotomanipulationshttps://www.behance.net/mbphotomanipulations Affinity Photo 1.7.2 Mac OSX 10.12.5 Mac Pro (Mid 2010)
GarryP
The way I think about them is this: Imagine that the image is on a rubber sheet. Then imagine that your hand is invisible (not mandatory). If you then Pinch the sheet and pull it towards you, you will see the part of the image you are pinching get larger as the sheet deforms up towards you. On the other hand, if you press your finger - or fist - into the sheet (Punch), then the part of the image you are punching will get smaller as it moves away from you. Does this help? Explains it but unfortunately I've always thought around the other way that pinching something pulls everything from further out towards the point you are pinching so it gets smaller not that it deforms towards the viewer. Pretty sure other Apps do it in this way and whilst I know that's not the only reason to do something that way just because App 1, 2, and 3 do it but it does seem in my mind very counter-intuitive unfortunately. Will have to retrain my mind if that's the way it's supposed to be. GarryP
I’m not saying that my explanation is correct, only that’s how I think about it. The little arrows in the icons show the direction in which the pixels move so I’m guessing that’s the way they are supposed to move. I’ve not used this sort of functionality anywhere else so I’ve not had to re-learn it (which might be a good thing). Maybe one of the more-experienced users can give you a better explanation, and answer your other question too.
