Image doesn't look as good after export

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with this.. So I'm new in the Affinity Photo world and I started editing my photos and they look great in the Affinity App, but as soon as I export them to my laptop they don't look as sharp anymore. I already watched the Youtube Tutorial about exporting in Affinity (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTkWrSTirus), which was very useful, but unfortunately didn't solve my problem... Is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks!

Tamara :)

Hey Tamara, welcome to Forum!

Sounds a bit similar to 'decrease focus and clarity' I was having.  Start by viewing response made to me by @GarryP,  here,  post #2 in thread.

Make sure the Force Pixel alignment is turned on.  That might be a great start.  Affinity I think needs to get better at the really simple things, for us beginners.  Sometimes the tutorials and workbook, are a bit much for some of us.  Leaning curve.  Simple sometimes better.

Hope this helps.

[Edit:  Keep posting until someone here 'nails your answer'. ]

In the Snapping Candidates and / or on the Tool bar, two weird looking icons next to the horseshoe magnet icon (for turning snapping on/off).

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Interesting!  I'll have to experiment w that.  In your opinion when should you keep 'Move by whole pixels' off?  From my limited experience, since I discovered it, I'm just keeping both on (Force pixel align and Move by whole pixels).  For that matter why would you ever want to turn either off?

Force pixel align and Move by whole pixels

Move by whole pixels has priority before Force pixel alignment. Therefore, if you require strict alignment for entire pixels, you must turn this option off, otherwise it will shift from 0.5 to 1.5 not to the required 1.0 or 2.0.

So I think I find a solution :) I doubled the high pass filter that I used to sharpen certain parts of the portrait which made it look way too much on Affinity, but great when it was exported :) Is probably not the way it was supposed to be, but it worked for my picture :)

Thank you all so much for your quick help!
