The version numbers of the iPad apps make no sense

Recommended Posts

Take the latest releases on iPad for example:

Affinity Designer:
Version shown on the splash screen: nothing
Version shown in Account: 1.9.1
Version shown in Settings: 1.9.7

Affinity Photo:
Version shown on the splash screen: 1.9.1
Version shown in Account: 1.9.1
Version shown in Settings: 1.9.1.225

Why is there no consistency in the way that version numbers are displayed, between Designer and Photo? And no consistency with Designer itself, between it's Account screen and Settings screen?

Even if there is some reason known internally to Serif, it makes no sense to users.

Yes agreed, looks like the conflict between INTERNAL build numbers and PUBLIC versions numbers has slipped through the release verification stages on Designer.

Photo looks to have done things the correct industry standard way with internal builds semi hidden in the fourth numerical field (225), not displayed on publicity etc.

When you have multiple teams working on different but similar products I have seen these same things happen before in industry, once started on a certain path it can be very difficult for a team to change tack as all internal paperwork quality control documents can get messed up easily. I feel their pain.

Just waiting for Ronny Pickering…..
