powcom
Good to see the support for GPU in v1.9. I’m running an (Intel Core i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz) with - 16GB RAM. I’m on Windows 10.0.19042 Pro, running a NVIDIA Quadro K620 (2GB). (I’m aware it’s an old card, but it’s the only one I’ve got! :). I’m running the latest drivers for all. I seem to match v1.9's need for GPU support - As I understand it, the K620 has the required Maxwell Architecture - but when trying to turn on Hardware Acceleration, Affinity Photo reports “Unsupported Machine Configuration” Is the card not supported? Am I missing something else needed? Given the relatively high power of the CPU and age/low power of the GPU is it even worth bothering with? Thanks in advance for the help. Joachim_L
Welcome to the Affinity forums @powcom! As you already say, your graphics card seems to be old and does not meet the technical requirements. But you are right, the text should be written else like "Although your Windows version meets our requirements, your graphic card unfortunately does not". Staff Patrick Connor Posted February 19, 2021 Staff Share Posted February 19, 2021 @powcom Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums The OpenCL implementation on some older cards is not any faster than running without hardware acceleration. It has been disabled for those cards where customers would complain the software was running slower than 1.8.5, so although technically capable we do not allow it to be turned on as you would not benefit. 1.9.0 without hardware acceleration is the same speed as 1.8.5 as it's going through the same codepath Quote Patrick Connor Serif Europe Ltd Latest V2 releases on each platform Help make our apps better by joining our beta program! powcom
Appreciate the reply @Patrick Connor. @Joachim_L seems to be on to something about finessing the message delivered. In the meantime, I'm going to cry into my cornflakes about how bad my GPU is Joachim_L and Mark Ingram

Any Direct3D Feature Level 12.0 card, except AMD Radeon 5000 series or above cards are supported. There is info in the help file about the requirements. Direct feature and DirectX are the same thing. It is called DirectX because it sounds cooler. I'm on the may 2020 update.
Subclavius
@Coirt, According to the NVIDIA website, the GTX 750Ti does not support DirectX 12, only 11.2. You can check this by running dxdiag

walt.farrell
Thanks. As Mark mentioned above, you need a card capable of Direct3D Feature Level 12.0 or higher. You card is limited to Feature Level 11.0, and therefore doesn't qualify.
