File extension names coming up on my images in Designer

Hello team
Whenever I import, place or just drag an image into Designer it now comes in with the file extension added ...ie HSS-0174.png
It never used to do this so maybe it's something to do with the recent update?

Anyway is there somewhere I can turn it off please?

I can't say that I've noticed it as a change, but it seems like worthwhile information to have in the Layers panel, especially now that Designer supports Linked images, not just Embedded.

I'm not aware of any options to influence that. I'm curious why it's a problem, if you'd like to share

Thanks for the reply  ...it's not the biggest problem in the world but just something that has started happening recently & I assumed it was the last update of a few weeks ago as i've not experienced it before.
It's just a personal preference & something I would like to be able to turn on or off

Thanks for that screenshot, as it reminded me of another good reason for including the extensions (in my opinion): A new function in Publisher 1.9, Layer > Convert to Image Resource, allows you to take a layer and convert it to an embedded Image layer (which would show up as (Image) in the Layers panel.

Having the extension in the layer name makes it easier to distinguish (Image) layers that are true external files from those that have been created by the new function. And for consistency perhaps the other applications changed their way of labeling, too.

Personally, I find it useful as I have files with identical names and different extensions, and this lets me easily see which I've used.
