AppStore Download vs. Serif-Download

Hi Affinity-Support-Team,

I'm using Affinity (all three Tools) since Start. Allmost one year ago I bought Topaz Denoise AI and Sharpen AI. I customised all necessary Parameters as described. Unfortunately the Topaz-Plugins do not work out of Affinity Photo. BTW - NIK is working fine!

So I asked the Topaz Support for help. They answered Yesterday:

Did you buy Affinity from the Apple App Store or directly from Serif?
If purchased from the App Store, Affinity will not be able to interact with our third party plugins and the behavior you are describing would be expected. The conflict has to do with Apple restrictions placed on the app store download.
If this is indeed the case, you'll need to return the App Store purchase if able, and buy the program directly from Serif if you can. My understanding from Serif Support is that there is no way to resolve this conflict with an App Store based installation.

Yes, I bought Affinity Photo from the App Store. Is there any Chance to change the Version of the Tool from "bought from AppStore" to "bought from Serif"?

Or would it make Sense to buy Affinity Photo again directly and reinstall it? Would this work and solve the Problem?

No, you would have to contact Mac App Store Support and try to return your purchase, then re-purchase from Serif.

However, I have some doubts about the accuracy of the answer you got from Topaz Support. I find it hard to believe that using the MAS version would eliminate the possibility of using any 3rd-party plug-ins, as that would mean the entire feature is useless as the only plug-ins are 3rd-party. And if the entire feature were useless, I'm sure that Serif would have documented that.

So there should be some way to make it work, and a Mac user here or someone from Serif should be able to help you.

Good Morning,

I would like to tell you briefly about my Tests.

I bought Affinity Photo directly from Serif in addition to the App-Store-Version. At 28,-€ in a special Offer, really no big Deal. After the Reinstallation, all Plugins from Topaz Labs now work directly from Affinity Photo as expected!

I am having exactly the same problem with Topaz plugins.  I have decided to bite the bullet and repurchase Affinity Photo directly from Serif.  Will I need to uninstall the Apple version before installing the new one?  I have lots of brush packs and assets on my Apple version and wondered if the Serif version will automatically pick them up or will I need to completely clear my system of the Apple version and then import all of my brushes etc once the Serif version is installed>
