a young
After updating to the latest version of photo, I've notice after locking a layer, you can still draw on it. Why? What's wrong?
Joachim_L
Welcome to the Affinity forums @a young! AFAIK the behaviour hasn't change from the versions before. Locking means, that a layer is prevented from being moved or transformed unintentionally. Not being able to ‘transform’ a locked layer specifically refers to moving, rotating, or scaling: it doesn’t mean you’re unable to transform it in the sense of changing its appearance by drawing on it. Joachim_L
So we can discuss, whether drawing on a locked layer is a transformation or not. Maybe this should be explained better in the documentation? a young
ok! didn't know that. strange and a bit stupid. locking should mean just that. completely locked down. no action on that layer at all! globesessions

a young
locking should prevent ANY accidental activity on that layer. you have this in photoshop. you have this in clip paint studio. I just opened clip studio to check. this is basic stuff! F R

Staff MEB Posted February 15, 2021 Staff Share Posted February 15, 2021 Hi @a young, Welcome to Affinity Forums Locking a layer in Affinity apps only prevent it from being selected on canvas to avoid accidental changes - you can still select it directly in the Layers panel to change it attributes (without having to unlock and lock again) which we consider a deliberate action. We are aware most apps don't behave this way/have a full lock. Feel free to create a new thread or add your voice to an existing one in the Suggestions & Feature Requests section of the forums asking to improve it/provide an option for a full lock if you find it important. Thanks for your feedback. Pšenda and F R 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference

rckeeler
The inability to fully lock a layer in Affinity is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. Please consider changing it to behave like other graphics programs. Thanks.
