ACC
My apologies if this is a repeat question. I searched but could not find an answer. first off....I am still a newbie with Affinity Designer but love it so far! My question is this....Is there a way to invert my current selection in the designer persona?
Alfred
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @ACC. As far as I’m aware, the answer to your question is ‘No’. As you may have discovered, there is a ‘Deselect’ option on the context menu but you can’t even reselect without switching to the Selections persona. I’d love to see the same options in both places. AllAppsUser
As @Alfred correctly says, there is no command specifically for "select everything except.." @ACC I can only suggest you: Make your selection. Then lock the selected (menu in the Layers panel / studio) Then select all. This will select everything except what's locked. I've done a simple trial of this with a 100% vector artwork (I don't tend to make hybrid vector+pixel art, atm). I've not tried selecting items within different and multiple groups or layers in any sophisticated (complex) way. So whether this will work as expected within your artwork, is something you'll need to experiment with. It may depend on how you've built your artwork up (groups, paste inside, layers, etc.,). ACC
@ProDesigner that’s a good alternate. Thanks! I guess I was really hoping there was as I was in need of exactly that in the moment but I gave up and started the invert areas manually. Super time consuming on the project I was working on. At least I know now. 🙂 Maybe this is something they can add in the future. I think it’s a fairly common one across other platforms.
AllAppsUser
Not so much in vector only apps, that I've encountered much – possibly because of the complexities in how the artwork is constructed (groups etc.,). Yes, in raster (pixel based) apps, it's a standard, where selection is a simpler exercise relatively.
