AP in Windows VM on Ubuntu? AFFINITY PLEASE COMMENT!

Recommended Posts

I've finally reached the end of my rope with MS arrogance and am seriously looking at Linux. I'm a retired dev and have been using Windows since 3.1.something-or-other, and writing code for it since Win95; this isn't a decision I will make lightly.

The only thing that might stop me in my tracks is the Affinity trio - it doesn't matter if there are alternatives, I must be able to run Affinity Photo (etc.) close to as well as they do natively on Windows (which I considered very good way back in 1.5).

My hardware:
  ASUS Crosshair VIII Formula
  Ryzen 9 3950X
64GB RAM (I can double that if needed)
  M.2/pcie4 NVME SSD, 2080Ti w/11GB
  ASUS RTX-2080 Ti (11 GB)

I haven't installed a distro yet, but I understand I can install my licensed copy of Windows in VM's on Ubuntu and install/run Windows programs well. I've seen many comments about running the Affinity software under Wine, but no discussions about running in licensed VM's.

Given my hardware, can I do what I want?

TIA!

Windows 11 Pro, XP-Pen Deco 03, AP, AD & APub
