garyb
Hi everyone, I've just made the switch to Affinity Designer from Inkscape, and one of the aspects which I'm finding fairly clunky is switching between the fill and stroke color in the "Color" and "Swatch" by clicking on the icons. A feature I liked in Inkscape was being able to choose the color of the stroke by shift-clicking on the swatches instead of a regular click. It would be nice to have a similar feature in Affinity whereby holding a hotkey down (e.g. shift) would temporarily toggle the fill/stroke mode in the color windows while the key remains held down - with them switching back when it is released. Maybe a workaround for this already exists? I am new to the software. Thanks, Gary
Staff MEB Posted September 28, 2015 Staff Share Posted September 28, 2015 Hi Gary, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) You can press X to toggle between stroke and fill and ⇧ (shift) + X to swap fill and stroke colours. randomjames
Hey MEB, I'm running 1.5.3 (MAS) and Shift+X doesn't work for me. Any suggestions?
Staff MEB Posted November 21, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 21, 2016 Hi randomjames, Go to Affinity Designer Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts, set the dropdowns to Draw and Miscellaneous then check the 6th line on the list. ⇧ (shift) X should be there by default, if not set it yourself. randomjames
Hey MEB, the keyboard preference was set as it should be. I closed the prefs window then tried the key command, still no luck. Just to make sure, I reopened it and clicked the 'x' button to clear the line, then re-recorded it. Now it seems to be working. Weird... Obrigado! Staff MEB Posted November 21, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 21, 2016 There was already a few reports of users having trouble with the shortcuts. Seems they stop working for no apparent reason but we haven't find out what's causing this yet. I thought this issue was limited to the Windows version... but apparently it affects the Mac as well. I will keep an eye on this and check if i can reproduce it somehow. ronnyb 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference

Kiarian
Hi, Has this been resolved? I'm using Affinity Designer on PC, and this toggle does not work. SHIFT-X swaps between outline mode and fill mode, but 'X' doesn't do a thing. Also, when I start to draw with the pen tool, and select a solid fill, after the second input from the pen tool, both fill and stroke seem to switch to no fill/no stroke. How do I set it so I can easily toggle fill mode on and off when drawing in real time?! ronnyb
Zuzu
Hi, is there a shortcut in designer persona to disable line or fill? I couldn't find any in the prefereces > keybord shortcuts
Staff MEB Posted May 18, 2020 Staff Share Posted May 18, 2020 Hi Zuzu, Welcome to Affinity Forums There's one to set the Fill to None (which is "/"), but not for Stroke. You can change it and find a few more useful ones setting the first dropdown to Designer and the second to Miscellaneous in the Keyboard Shortcuts section in Affinity Preferences.
