Merging pixel layers in Affinity Designer on a Mac

Recommended Posts

I am following a tutorial where the instructor is using Affinity Designer on IPad. One step in her demo requires merging 5 pixel layers. On the IPad, the instructor selects the five layers, then opens the menu at the top of the layer studio, and clicks on  "merge selected" . On my Mac, the menu at the top of the layer sudio looks entirely different. (Sorry,I can't take a screen shot because my screenshot app does not take pics of pop-ups.) It includes optons like "Auto-scroll", "Checkerboard background", "Small, medium or large thumbnails". I am working in Pixel persona. I looked in the main layer menu, but that does not have a "merge selected layers" either. Where is that option on the Mac version of Affinity Designer 1.9?

On desktops, the menu with “Auto-scroll” etc. in it is the menu which controls the Layers Panel itself, not the layers within it.
The iPad versions of the software work differently to the desktop versions in various ways.
I think, but could be wrong, that the desktop versions of Designer don’t have the “Merge Selected” functionality but the desktop versions of Photo do, see attached screen-grabs. (I’m using Windows 10 but the Mac version might be different.)

The Mac version is the same Garry, no layer merge options so you have to go to edit in Photo... if Affinity Photo is installed.

If they're pixel layers, I believe this could be a workaround for merging them: First Group them, followed by a Rasterise… of the Group. The result basically is a merge of the pixel layers in the Group.

Excellent workaround 👍
