Adjustment(s)?

Never noticed this before. Is there any reason why the panel is called "Adjustment" and the icon on the Layers panel reads "Adjustments"?

Yeah, the second one's a typo yet coming from the University of Pedantry I can overlook that. What I don't appreciate is inconsistency,  I think it's sloppy and I need another beer
