Saving to USB stick ?

Recommended Posts

The only way I know is to first save the file to the Files app. From there you can save it to an external drive.

I do it to move work from the iPad to an old Mac that’s got the older incompatible airdrop.

Words are crude implements, difficult to get perfect, easy to get tied in knots with, and often - usually - misunderstood, which is why 'tolarence' is the best word of all.

The word "professional" fits us all - amateur, semi-pro, beginner, advanced, middle, beyond it all, and on....., because professionals are tolerant.

So far I've only been able to find external saving to iCloud,

Depends what you are saving. If it is an afdesign file, use Save a copy and navigate to any location, tap Save and file app opens access to all available locations.

Saving an Exported file just tap Share on the Export screen and pick a location. If you choose save to Files it opens access to network and other locations.

I have a USB to Lightning device (no USB port on ipad) allowing me to save to USB easily. I also have a wireless drive Wd Wireless Pro which can set up its own network for iPad to access. Works well too.

Thanks from me for that @DM1. Really good to know. I quite like having a copy within the Files app, as a sort of back-up. So I might continue doing what I've been doing. But great to understand all the options.

I've a usb to lightening adapter – it's been a game changer. Negates the need for traffic over the internet just to shift a file from two devices in the same room.
