You need to click on one of the Presets (say, Default) if you're using the Adjustment panel in 1.9.

(Or you can use the adjustments icon at the bottom of the Layers panel, or Layer > New Adjustment from the menu.)

I have the same issue, but this has not solved the fact that in my Adjustments palette its not generating an adjustment window as it used to do. I would just click on say 'Levels' in the Adjustments palette and up would pop the window with the adjustment sliders etc. I can only now access that window by going to Menu> Layer> New Adjustmant Layer> Levels, which is long winded and its the same with all the Adjustment facilities. Not sure I understand the Presets advice.

Are you saying that if you click on Levels in the Adjustment panel, that it does not expand and show you the presets thumbnails for that kind of adjustment?

If so, what OS are you on?

By the way, you can also use the adjustment icon at the bottom of the Layers panel, rather than the menu.

Mac OS Big Sur 11.2 - yes, when I click on Levels in the Adjustment panel (what I call a floating palette) it no longer throws up the slider window - see attachment.  Using the icon on the layers palatte is better than using the menu, but not as effecient as clicking on the Adjustments palette. I have rebooted Affinity to no effect and will now try rebooting the computer to see if it clears.

@Freddie360. This is a new way to reach the sliders popup window for each adjustment.  In the Adjustments Panel, click on the little icon for the one you want (i.e. HSL) and then double click on the first icon below it on the left “default”. The slider popup opens.  This is actually much much faster than the previous LAYER>NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER>HSL...  and with a little use becomes — in my own opinion — really nice.  Just my opinion, though.  Don’t reboot your computer!!!

Your attachment shows us the Layers panel.

What do you see in the Adjustment panel if you click on Levels there. You should see something like this, with 3 different presets for that kind of adjustment (Default, Darken, Lighten). Clicking on the thumbnail labeled Default is the new way to create the adjustement layer just like that panel used to in 1.8, and would open the adjustment dialog:

AP 1.9.0 - This new way of opening an adjustment dialog does not work on my Affinity Photo, I managed to get one adjustment dialog (Brightness/Contrast) to do it once, after that is would not do it again. I have gone through all of the adjustments and it does not work at all on any of them.

Also, on the previous version one click on the Adjustment Levels brought up the adjustment dialog, this new system (which does not work for me) requires two clicks before throwing up the adjustment dialog, this is less efficient. However, I will settle for the new working indirect click system if it can be solved.

So to to now achieve the slider-controls window opening you either need to click-twice or double-click the required "adjustment", both of which is an additional step over the previous version? How is this an improvement?

It helps ensure you don't get an unexpected adjustment layer, or modify an existing adjustment layer of the same type unexpectedly.

We seem to have established that some of us think the new 'default' double click to get an adjustment dialog to show is not an improvement. In my case even more so as it does not work on my AP,  has anyone any idea how I can fix it so it does work?

I appreciate that this isn't a "proper" answer - but I have reverted to 1.8.5. - whether this is a long-term or temporary solution depends on future releases, at some point inevitability will mean moving to the latest release.

As an aside - is this anything to do with multi-platform compatibility? I only use on Windows so have no familiarity with other devices.

How do you go about doing that if you do not have a copy of 1.8.5, I cannot find a download for this older version on the Affinity site.

Assuming that you purchased from Serif (not from the Microsoft Store): https://affinity.store/update/windows/photo/1 (or for Designer or Publisher change "photo" to "designer" or "publisher")

(Or for MacOS hange the "windows" to "macos".)

I purchased it from the Apple Store, at the time there was no alternative.

In that case you cannot revert unless you have, e.g., a TimeMachine backup that you can restore.

Hello, I too really dislike the new sliders. They are cute at best, sloppy and inaccurate at worst.

Not sure what you mean. The sliders are the same ones we have always had.

This "improvement" is an annoying step backwards. Double-clicking is always faster than clicking on two different places on the screen, so please revert to previous method.

Like RCR stated, they're the same sliders, nothing changed in appearance, just the method to get there. Don't like looking at the cute preset icons, use the button at the bottom of the Layers Panel. It will get you the same result as Clicking on the Preset, then clicking on the Default Preset Icon.

As stated previously, it does not work on my Big Sur system, I have to use the menu or the icon at the bottom of the layer palette. I have been informed by AffinitySupport that it is a known issue and will be rectified in the next upgrade, lets hope that is soon. I work swiftly with open palettes and although the workaround is easy enough to do, when you have to do it dozens of times a day it is a pain. See my attached open palettes image.
