1.9.0 causing 'herky-jerky' behavior

Recommended Posts

Hey all, since updating to v1.9 both Designer and Publisher are acting really poorly.  Dragging or resizing items is very jerky and slow to respond, causing one to constantly over-compensate.

Also, there is now noticeable keyboard lag that was not present before the update.

I specifically use these products because they let me move as fast as I like, and can always keep up.  Now, that is no longer true.

I am using a VERY fast, liquid-cooled, windows box with 32GB of physical memory, a 2TB Samsung-EVO primary SSD, all of the latest updates, a high-end graphics card, etc...

The problem is definitely in the new builds - perhaps some common code between them that has been changed?

Your thoughts and, of course, fixes, are greatly appreciated.

Best,

Matt

Hi Matt,

I noticed that as well in Designer 1.9. Dragging and resizing is laggy and slow, but only in Designer Persona in my case. As soon as I switch to Pixel Persona everything is running fast and smooth.

My PC specs: Windows, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080, Samsung SSD.

So following this thread to see what could be the issue.

M.

EDIT: added video with comparison between pixel and designer persona - resizing and moving simple vector shape.

Hi, we’ve identified a problem with the Paragraph panel being open causing performance problems. Can you try closing the panel and trying again? We will have a fix available soon.

Yes, it was caused by Paragraph panel in my case. Gonna keep it closed when not needed and I’m waiting for the fix.

Thanks Mark

We have made fixes/improvements to this area (visible paragraph panel slows the application) of the program in the latest customer beta. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below.

The latest beta builds are downloadable from links at the top of each of these beta forum posts.

These betas install parallel, next to the release version (they do not overwrite your release) and so the fixes can be tried in the beta without affecting your normal workflow in the release version.

Once these programs have been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.9.1 update/patch to all customers.

Woohoo!

Issue resolved in the production versions of both Designer and Publisher.

Thanks guys for the rapid response!!

BTW: How much would it cost to buy a license that would allow us to both import AND export to AI, PSD, INDD, etc...?

As a community, maybe we could do a fund-raise for the amount... if it's even in the realm of affordability.

That's the one and only reason that I can't just throw away my license to Photoshop and Illustrator... I still need to be able to move files in and out of the Adobe ecosystem.

sorry but we are not going down the path of user funded features. Future releases like 2.0 will add more features and you should only buy if they are the ones that you want
