Affinity Photo Crashes on Open File, New File.

System: Windows 10

Affinity Photo ver. 1.9.0.932

Affinity Photo  has been working fine without any issue for years. Today the program craches (closes without any warning)  every time I open a file or create a new file. 

Problem started with previous version.

I Installed the latest version. The problem  insists on version 1.9.0.932

I am attaching crash reports.

Hi, thanks for the crash reports. I can confirm that the crash is inside nvwgf2umx.dll which is part of NVIDIA's graphics card driver. Could you try uninstall and reinstall of your driver, or alternatively, change your Renderer in Preferences?

Thank you Mark.

I changed the Renderer to INTEL HD GRAPHICS 5500 (which is probably the onboard card of my DELL laptop) and the issue is fixed. 

Will this slow down Affinity Photo?

The  NVIDIA's driver was installed 2 days ago, as part of an update of the drivers of my laptop from DELL Support Assist. 

I think I need to uninstall the new driver and install the old one.

Can you find out what the version of that driver was? It definitely sounds like the NVIDIA driver is at fault here.

What graphics card do you have? You could try changing the Renderer in Preferences. You may need to ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date (uninstall and reinstall).

The new driver installed was: Version 10.18.13.5382, A01

Those drivers are both from 2015, so I do wonder whether the "official" NVIDIA drivers would be better suited.

Dear All, I have the same issue, as Mark Ingram, with the new Version of Affinity -> [Version 1.9.0.932]. Affinity has crashed nearly every time.

I am using the Graphic Card Intel(R) UHD Graphics 610 - Driver Version 27.20.100.8729 from Intel Corporation which seems to be the newest version.

Laptop Type:  LENOVO_MT_81RG_BU_idea_FM_V340-17IWL.

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home / Version: 10.0.19041 Build 19041
 

Any idea what may cause this?

Try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, often we see that that helps.

Dear Mark

Doesn't seem to be the issue or make any difference, I am sorta getting really frustrated with Affinity at this point, as it worked fine until the newer update came.

What can we do to resolve this issue?

Hi Trish, when you uninstalling the graphics card drivers, and installed the latest ones, do you know what version you updated to?

After a crash, can you upload the log file from:

%APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\Log.txt

And the latest crash reports from :

%APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports

Then I can investigate further.
