Wrong Freehand Selection Cursor

Not a biggie, but a slight annoyance. My Freehand Selection Tool cursor icon keeps getting stuck on either the "View Tool" or "Move Tool" icons.
Sometimes it starts with the usual Freehand Slection icon, but if I switch between tools the icon doesn't change back.
I can still make selections as usual, but since the View Tool icon (hand) is quite bulky it can be quite tricky to make accurate selections as I can't see exactly which point the cursor is selecting from.

Confirming: does this include a general failure for the cursor to revert when moving from my right monitor where the tools are to my left monitor where my work is? Not restricted to certain tools or conditions, as far as I can see. Whatever it is over there, it comes over here the same, so I'm drawing a box with a drag icon, and whatnot.

Today I when I tried to use the polygonal free selection tool it behaved like the magnetic selection tool! I clicked the magnetic tool and then back to polygonal and the problem resolved.
