lifestudent
I just downloaded Affinity this afternoon and after spending some time watching tutorials I felt confident enough to jump in and get to work on some photos. I'm working on my laptop macbook pro and I don't have a mouse so I'm using my track pad. I've selected to use the inpainting brush tool and have the width of the brush set, but when I press the track pad down with my thumb and then use my index finger to navigate the brush it doesn't seem to "activate" the tool. The circle for the brush just moves around wherever I move my index finger. Is there some other step I've missed or is there some other way to "drag" when using a track pad? Staff MattP Posted September 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted September 22, 2015 It should work exactly the same way you usually drag with your trackpad - mine seems to work fine? Press one finger down hard enough to feel the click then drag it around or add a second finger and move that around to control the cursor... It's just the system's default implementation of dragging - we've not specialised it ourselves or anything :)
Madame
Have you activated the layer you are working on? -Or if you have a ajustment layer activated, you wouldn't see anything happening.(maybe). Staff MEB Posted September 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted September 22, 2015 Hi lifestudent, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) The Inpainting Brush tool only works on Pixel layers (not Image layers). You can identify their type looking at the word in parenthesis after their name in the Layers panel. Right-click on the image layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterise... then try the Inpainting Tool again. An Image layer is considered an object layer type (like text or shapes), while a Pixel layer is a "container" where you can perform raster operations. You get an image layer when you drop an image from Finder in your document. Let me know if you still have trouble. CPP
Thank you MEB. I found your description useful of the difference between pixel layers and image layers. However, there is a strange thing if you choose to rotate or crop a pixel layer which leaves transparent areas round the edges. The layer is still described as a pixel layer in the Layers panel but it is not possible to clone into the transparent portions without first rasterising the layer. Carla
I had the same problem on my MacBook so I did what MEB said and I was able to use the Inpainting Brush, my only problem is that the area I unpainted turned out white which was not the background. Also (and I know how silly this sounds writing it) it says I have to "Alt Click". So I press option and press down on the trackpad. Is this wrong? i does not work :(
