Setup Fehler Publisher

Recommended Posts

Hello I'm new here and have a question from Germany

I'm NOT a computer specialist and hope everyone can help me, I didn't find anything about this in your FAQ 🙁

My problem is that I can't install the software.

I bought Publisher 1.9.0 for Windows from Affinity-Store and downloaded the program today and tried different times.

I start the setup as "Administrator" (all Windows updates done)  I choose C:\Program Files\Affinity\Publisher

Then a window opens "Installation wird vorbereitet" and stops with the notice "Fehler beim Setup" and this message: "Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.svg\OpenWithProgids. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"

I don't know what this means. Perhaps it might be because I haven't entered my product key? But it don't ask for that.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!

JoM

Hi @JoM,

Welcome to the forums!

My apologies for the delayed response here and I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble installing the latest update.

This error is relating to Registry Keys, which Windows uses to hold 'values' and controls low level settings across the OS.

Usually, this error can be resolved by restarting your computer, then right-clicking on the .exe and selecting Run as Administrator.

If this doesn't help, you may need to manually edit the permissions of the registry key itself, the below is taken from Microsofts Support site -

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/

To verify and change the permissions of a registry key

a.    Click Start, then in the 'Start Search' field, type 'Regedit' and press 'Return'.

b.    In the 'Registry Editor' window, Browse through the location as given in the error message.  Right-click the entry which you want to change, and choose 'Permissions'

c.    The 'Permissions for <registry key name>' dialog is displayed.

From here you can

d.    Select users and change their permissions.

e.    Click 'Advanced' to open the 'Access Control Settings for <registry key name>' dialog box, and change users access control.

f.     When you have completed your changes, click 'Apply' and 'OK' to accept them.

Please do let me know how you get on!
