Hi @Don C,

Could you try starting Affinity with the Control Key held down and you should get a popup asking if you'd like to clear some settings.  3 options will be selected and you can click on Clear.  Affinity should then start as normal.

If Affinity still doesn't start, could you attach a log file for me? Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard and type %appdata% and go to Affinity\Photo\1.0\ and attach Log.txt here

is this supposed to work on Windows? I am holding control on my keyboard while clicking the app and it won't give me anything but a crash.

You need to keep Ctrl held down until you get the Clear dialog. (On my system, I have to watch for the icon on the Taskbar, and click the icon (while still keeping Ctrl held down).

thanks Walt
I have tried holding ctrl for a few seconds before clicking and keep holding it after clicking. The splash screen show up, crash... and I am still holding the button. 30 seconds later nothing was showing up.

If you're holding Ctrl down, and doing it right, you get the Clear Data dialog before you get the Splash screen. Make sure you have Ctrl pressed before you click the application icon, and keep it pressed until you have the Clear Data dialog showing on the screen.

I can't see how I can hold ctrl the wrong way :(
I mean... it's a simple button. is it right control or left?
If I do the left one nothing happens. If I hold the right one clicking does nothing

I use the left Ctrl key. The common error is either letting up too early, or not pressing the key early enough; it must be held down before clicking on the application in the Start menu.

Yeah as mentioned above I keep it down few seconds before pressing the icon and while clicking it. Then I keep holding it but the splash screen shows up. I even tried with a different keyboard just in case.

Doesn't work for me unfortunately.

That's unfortunate, Mike. I've never heard of that before.

Is your machine by any chance equipped with an integrated Intel graphics device? Had the same issue with all three Affinity apps on my notebook, updating to the latest graphics driver from Intel solved the issue for me.

Thanks, but AMD Radeon.

Hi @Don C@MikeDuf & @fadmedia,

Our developers have released new beta versions to hopefully workaround the crashing issue you're seeing on launch with the Affinity apps.

Can you please try downloading the latest Affinity beta from the below link and installing this alongside your current retail version, so you have 2 different Affinity app versions installed. Please note the 1.9.1 beta will still work, even if you have 1.8.5 retail installed.

You may find that the 1.9.1 beta will still crash on first run, like 1.9.0 does - however this crash should activate a fall back option on next launch, which should stop the app from crashing and therefore you'll hopefully find 1.9.1 works as expected on the second (and any subsequent) launches.

Please do let us know if this resolves your crashing, as our developers are working to resolve this as quickly as possible :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
