oneearth
I don't seem to be able to change color or style of page numbers in master pages. Any font is bold and black although I can change size.
sfriedberg
You should be able to select the page number field in the master page and apply a character style, or select the entire paragraph in which the page number field lies and apply a paragraph style, or both. I apply a paragraph style, as my typical page footers have three tabbed positions (left, right and center) and the paragraph style gives me the tab properties as well. I don't know if non-styled character overrides work on a master page, as I've never tried that. But defining a character style and applying should definitely work. Here's a red page number on the Master Page and here it is on a document page that inherits from that Master: They format just like any other characters. oneearth
GENTLEMEN... I understand the that "you should be able to..." what I'm saying is it does not work for me. Sequence I used... create new master page > make text box > select menu/type/insert/fields/page number The # appears but no parameter can be changed except font size. What am I missing? Old Bruce
Making a wild guess here, I think your Character Style NUMBERS has a black stroke applied to it. oneearth
How do I delete - or nullify - a character style for page numbers?
Old Bruce
Do so in the Text Styles panel. Select it, right click and choose delete from the dropdown menu. Edit after realizing there is a Nullify question too. To cancel it just choose a different style or [no style] from the character styles. oneearth
Finally found the culprit... you were correct. Somehow a style was being applied to page number text box. Thanks so much! walt.farrell
walt.farrell
You had both a character style and a paragraph style showing in your screenshot.
