Looks like he’s set full mode to Alternate, if you scrub back through the vid

I don’t think either shape is placed ‘inside’ the other. It looks to me as though it’s initially two closed shapes which are overlapping, with the ‘Divide’ command being used to split them into three non-overlapping shapes. The upper part of the circle is then simply deleted.

Looks like it's just cut and pasted inside - not sure how this achieved on iPad (alt, cmd v on mac) but it s the same as dragging below and to the right of whatever shape you want to paste into - so clipped as opposed to masked - not sure if it helps, but find attached a quick grab from mac
