EEvgeniy Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 Good day to you! I have faced a strange bug: I can't switch language (I use English and Russian) while editing text field, but can if I stop editing it. So, I create text field and start typing text and when I want to switch it — I got macos error sound and nothing is happening. Then I click outside text field and try to switch language once again — and it works! I think that began after I installed additional Russian language dictionaries from https://github.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries, but I'n not 100% sure. I use Publisher 1.8.6 and MacOS Big Sur.
walt.farrell Posted January 29, 2021 Posted January 29, 2021 When the error occurs, exactly what are you trying to do to switch the language? Is this specific to one document, or does it happen in other documents, too? Can you provide a screenshot or, even better, a video of the error happening? -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. EEvgeniy Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 Hej, Walt! And sorry for the delay. What am I doing is exactly the same thing I do when I want to change keyboard layout from English to Russian and reverse — that's for Cmd+space on my Macbook. Here's short video that demonstrates the issue. And unfortunately it happens with every document. Запись_экрана_2021-01-31_в_20_21_07.mov
walt.farrell Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Thanks. That helps explain your problem. Sorry, I do not have an answer except that as you are typing in a Text Frame it looks like Publisher is treating your Cmd+Space as another character to add to the text. For a simpler workaround you might try: Pressing Esc, then Cmd+Space, then clicking in the Text Frame again. or Moving the mouse cursor over the edge of the frame until the mouse cursor changes, then Cmd+Space, then move the mouse cursor again. Both of those will temporarily take you out of editing mode. But I don't know if there's a way to do it while remaining in editing mode. Possibly someone with a Mac will have more ideas. I do not think it is at all related to the dictionaries you have installed. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. EEvgeniy Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 Walt, thanks for you reply, but... to be honest, I'm pretty sure that's a bug (or something in contra in settings of the paragraph and/or characters), because that is not usual way Publisher worked for me. I don't know if that can affect, but I also I can't even put special characters like currencies: here's one for Russian ruble — ₽. In Publisher I got just blank square instead.

As for the other issue: I don't know if it's a bug or not. And as I don't have a Mac I can't check further. Most likely. @EEvgeniy I suggest using the Glyph Browser (Панель «Средство просмотра глифов») to investigate Cannot help with switching language as it works perfectly on windows. I also have the github Russian dictionaries, I doubt that is the problem Does Cmd+space work correctly with other programs like a word processor?
