Do I need Designer when I work with Publisher?

I've started with Publisher to design a book for a client. I think many function of Designer are implemented in Publisher (working with curves, Text on a path etc). Do you think I'll need Designer also? What are the main functions of Designer which Publisher don't has?

I would say that they are there.
Because Designer can't handle pages it needs Artboards, so Publisher don't need it (or you can say: has it also)

It just remains the vector brush tools of your list, mmhh, I have to say that I don't need it in my business.

I recommend using the trial version (now is 90-day trial period). I think that even the current 50 percent discount could make the decision on necessity easier 🙂
And connecting ADesigner/APhoto to APublisher via StudioLink is very practical and addictive 🙂
But if your "vector" work is to draw a square, then you probably won't really use ADesigner.

You are right  

But I have all that vector stuff.

I'm spoiled, cause I've worked with CorelDraw over 25 years. Nearly everything in CorelDraw has a much better and quicker handling (eg. working with colors, having all kinds of object styles, a gorgeous print preview in which you can do everything). But it also has bugs and I need a modern publishing tool.
The main problem is that Serif has not look left and right to copy the best functions from other software, they were only oriented to Adobe. And I hate working with Adobe products, that's why I worked with Corel all the years.

I think it would depend on the kind of book you are creating. If it is a standard book, pretty much all text then yes Publisher is all you will need. If you are needing to create vector artwork then obviously you would want to get Designer to handle all the vector stuff. As Psenda suggested, get the trial and force yourself to work in Publisher, if you don't know how to do something yet do not stop but ask here and figure it out. You will quickly get an idea if Publisher is for you. Also there is 50% off right now so for the price you would be paying just for Publisher you could have both Publisher and Designer.

As a Corel user I must say that there are hundrets of problems.

Yes there are a lot of issues, it is a fairly new application still in V1 which is why you should really test out the proof and see if it will work for you. It is also significantly cheaper. 

You are probably going to have a bigger learning curve coming from Corel as Corel operates very differently then Adobe Indesign and I would say Publisher is more in line with Indesign with how it works than it is with Corel.

Yes, but how does that relate to ADesigner? Of course, he has a lot of his problems and mistakes, but if you still have to "fight" with APublisher, so you de facto solve and learn problems for the whole ASuite.
Now you do something in Corel, something in APublisher, everyone has a different logic, somewhere something still doesn't work the way you imagine and you're used to, ....

That isn't really a "problem", it's just a matter of using the correct setting, as per the reply by Ray S. 😁

You would be wrong. You have those in Publisher only if you also own Designer.
