Affinity Photo Customer Beta (1.9.0.216 - GM Seed)

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Status: GM Seed

Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo

Mac App Store: Submitted

Download ZIP (Universal): Download

Auto-update: Available

Hello,

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the final build of Affinity Photo 1.9.0 for macOS.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is significantly different from the 1.8 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Photo.

Thanks again for your continued support!

Affinity Photo Team

Changes Since 1.8.6

- Added a new “Astrophotography Stack” persona.
- Added “Live Liquify” layers.
- Added linked layers.
- Added pattern layers.
- Added studios presets.
- Added the “Resource Manager” functionality from Publisher for managing image placement.
- Added text-on-a-path support.
- Added “Export Timelapse”.
- Added ability to create brushes from the current pixel selection with one click.
- Added a new “Divide” blend mode.
- Added “Create from centre” for the elliptical marquee tool.
- Added a benchmarking tool to the help menu. It will only become available when no documents are open.
- Added an option to allow snapping to the bounds of the pixel selection.
- Added support for PDF passthrough.
- Added per-layer antialiasing controls in the advanced blending menu.
- Added curves adjustment to the tone mapping persona.
- Added export preview panel (for raster types) - updates live whenever you change an export parameter.
- Added JPEG-XR 101010 import support (useful for screen captures from Xbox, etc.)
- Added support for 12bit grayscale TIFF files.
- Added “Duplicate spare channel” to right click menu.
- Added native CR3 support to the Serif Labs RAW engine.
- Added support for Canon EOS R6.
- Added a registration page to the app - this allows users to login and download owned content from the Affinity store.

- Improved “Serif Labs” RAW engine.
- Blend modes now work on “alpha only” layers (masks, adjustments, live filters, etc.).
- Gradient map adjustments now support global colours.
- Filter effects now work properly with global colours.
- You can now single click a spare channel in the Channels panel to edit it like a layer.
- The Curves adjustment now has numeric field controls for precise positioning.
- Adjustments no longer auto apply when expending a section of the adjustments panel.
- More filters now work on masks / adjustments / spare channels (Add Noise, Perlin Noise, etc.).
- LUT adjustments can be exported directly from the adjustments panel, and batch imported from files.
- Having a large number of LUT presets will no longer make application startup slow.
- Assistant options are now available from preferences (so there is no need to open a document to access them).

Please can users of this beta look at the My Account feature (top right of the main toolbar) even if you have already done so recently in another beta, as we are still making last minute changes

We have added the ability to link your Affinity app to your Affinity account through a new app registration process. This will have the advantages of you being able to stream any content you have purchased (or received for free from the Affinity store) directly to all your apps without having to manually install them. This is of particular use to customers who have more than one of our apps, or run our apps on different devices and operating systems as all your content will automatically be available across all of them.

If you register the beta app you will initially receive a free brush kit (the luminance brush kit) for testing purposes. This might be a kit you already have, but if you don’t you will get it for free. Over the next few weeks this will be expanded to include all of the store content you may already own.

There have been lots of behind the scene improvements and more of the purchasable and (historical) free claimable content is being added. PLEASE report anything you find using "My Account" IN THAT THREAD

There is still the "select layer bug" where the named layer is selected with shortcut keys. It also appears when the layer panel is docked. To reproduce:

Make a new project

Enable 'use shift modifier to cycle tools'

create a few layers.

name one of the layers starting with "g"

select any other of the new layer named (pixel)

move that layer up or down

press "g" on the keyboard (e.g. if you want to use the (awfully slow...) flood fill tool)

now the G layer gets selected

Oh and let me take this opportunity to also express my admiration for these awesome programs and your generous pricing strategy. It's not perfect but for a version 1 it's amazing how you are able to build a viable alternative for the Adobe programs (at version 22!) and their horrible cloud model.

Are you guys planning to do something about batch export? The current workflow is some kind tedious, having to go to the Export Persona, create Slices, adjust all the Slices and only then Exporting all the adjusted slices from layers.

I believe this must have been requested before…

Kind regards,

Is this coming to Batch Jobs as well? In the current Beta, there's no option for PDF passthrough when adding files to the Sources panel in the New Batch Job dialog. This means Batch Jobs can still not be used to bulk-convert multiple PDFs without having all the required fonts installed.

I have already a registered product Affinity photo , designer and publisher

when I install photo 1.9 beta I am ask to register my account  , where do i find it if Ive got Affinity on the apple store ?

If you have ever downloaded any of the free content from the Affinity Store, or purchased any of the content there, you have an account already. Just use the sign-in link in the registration dialog, and provide your Affinity Store credentials (email, password).

If you do not have an Affinity Store account, there's a link in the dialog to register a free one.

Your only license is with Apple if you've never gotten something (free, or purchased)  from the Affinity Store.

then Ill wait for the official 1.9 version on apple store , i dont want to make things more complicated with 2 licences for the same product

You will still need to register an account at the Affinity Store if you want to obtain the free content that it provides, or if you want to be able to synchronize Affinity Store content between your applications and computers. It won't matter whether you do it in the 1.9 beta or the 1.9 retail. The application support for this function is using Affinity Store accounts regardless of where you purchased the actual application, as it deals specifically with Affinity Store content (brushes, macros, etc.).

Of course, if you don't want that free content, and you don't have any other Affinity Store content, or if you don't want the Affinity Store content to be synchronized between your applications or computers, you don't need to go through the registration or sign-in from your applications.

Again, you may already have one. If you've ever followed any of the links from the Welcome Screen to get free brushes or macros you registered an Affinity Store account at that time.

@erickb... You are mistaking an account for a license. Setting up an account with Serif will not get you a license for any of their products; to license one of their products, you would have to make a purchase.

Think of this as if you bought a microwave from Amazon, and then registered that product with the manufacturer (for support, warranties, and so forth). The act of creating an account with the manufacturer doesn’t get you a new microwave, nor does it entitle you to a second serial number for the microwave you already have.

The long and short of it is (i) you don’t really need an account with Serif until you want something from them; (ii) creating an account won’t necessarily get you anything you don’t already have, nor will it obligate you to anything. It’s just sort of announcing “Here I am” in order to centralize your dealings with Serif, if and when you have any.

In my experience, however, Serif is an honest and straightforward company to deal with, and you should absolutely feel comfortable creating an account, even if you don’t (technically) need one.

In this case, if you do not already have an account with the Affinity Store, registering will definitely get you something you don't already have. It will get you some free brushes and macros.

Good to know that you sorted this out, erickb. And Walt is correct in that you can now access the free brushes and macros.

As I said earlier, and as many members of this forum will attest to, Serif has proven itself to be honorable and above board. I believe you will only benefit from your association with them.

Nobody NEEDS to register. It should be stressed this is optional. If you want to then register, otherwise don't . People who register will get some complimentary content , but it is all optional. The software works identically either way, with the exception of not accessing the store content sync option.
