How make blended layer look more natural?

Recommended Posts

I selected the shark below and pasted it into the ocean layer.  Affinity Photo does an exceptional job at selections!  My question is, how could I make it more natural looking?  Normally I'd use a shadow to make it blend better.  But I don't think that would work in this case.

-Thanks

Hi zBernie,

to me this composit don't look too unnatural. Maybe the blue spill on the bottom of the shark should be more on the greenish side like the background benath. The blacks and the dark areas of the shark could be more darker to match the dark values of the background. And maybe the edges of the shark could have some blur to glue more to the BG. But all of this is only my opinion/taste and the picture that you've posted is very tiny to see what could be done further.

Thanks for the suggestions.  What I did was to add a shadow below the shark, and some bubbles by the tail to suggest motion.  I did use slight shadow effect on the bottom of the shark.  I also tweaked the shark and background colors.  Overall I'm happy with how it turned out.

They do not look realistic.

I've never seen a shark leave a trail of bubbles unless it's just farted and they don't do that very often.

Yes, I just watched several videos of sharks swimming and there were no visible bubbles.

Wasn't there this movie with sharks called Fartnado? 🤔

You are thinking of the original name for the Sharknado films but the censors made them change it plus they could not get the sharks to fart on demand whilst filming them

Why do you say "bubbles not"?

Bubbles behind the tail would only form if the tail created such pressure that the water would decompose and form bubbles - what an atomic submarine creates at a water propeller when it takes up full power. Or if he swam just below the surface, and occasionally took in air with his tail.

The shadow under the shark is too sharp - it retains its outline. But water scatters light far more, including waves on the surface.

Coincidence or inspiration? :-)
