Artistwright
I'm thinking more in terms of drawing a shadow. Let's say we have a black shape which will be a long shadow, on one end of the shadow I want it to have a well defined sharp edge and on the other end I want it to get gradually more blurry. I'm thinking the Gaussian Blur could be modified to achieve this. If anyone can do this another way please let me know. telemax and SKT7
telemax
+1 Just one idea - Blur Brush Tool But unfortunately rasterizing vector objects, and is created manually. Artistwright
Hi there @telemax Thanks for that, I had thought of this also but I really wanted to keep it vector.

GarryP
In addition to the method given above you can also: create your shape; duplicate the shape; add a Blur Effect to the duplicate; add a Transparency gradient to the duplicate from left-to-right; add a Transparency gradient to the original from right-to-left. See attached image. loukash, Artistwright, dominik and 3 others
RNKLN
You could also give the Depth of Field filter a try… Graphite Addict 1 Quote Affinity Photo - Affinity Designer - Affinity Publisher | macOS Sonoma (14.2) on 16GB MBP14 2021 with 2.4 versions
Artistwright
Thanks @GarryP appreciate the idea. I have used this technique on previous designs but I find the layer with the transparency still stays too sharp and doesn't seem natural. Thanks again. Dazmondo77
I think a combination of the two above suggestions gives an half decent result : Screen_Grab_2021-01-23_at_13_33_34.mov Graphite Addict, RNKLN, Move Along People and 3 others 6 Quote Mac Pro Cheese-grater (Early 2009) 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon 48 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC Ram, Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, Ugee 19" Graphics Tablet Monitor Triple boot via OCLP 1.2.1 - Mac OS Monterey 12.7.1, Sonoma 14.1.1 and Mojave 10.14.6 Affinity Publisher, Designer and Photo 1.10.5 - 2.2.1 www.bingercreative.co.uk

GarryP
You cannot add a Live Filter in Designer, but you can add a Live Filter in Photo and then later edit it in Designer by double-clicking the thumbnail of the Live Filter layer (not the layer the Live Filter has been applied to). RNKLN
The DoF filter is an APhoto feature. I suggested it as an alternative to the Gaussian blur filter (which I believe is also APhoto only). SKT7
@GarryPThat's what I thought! just wanted to check if there's a way to do it without opening the file in Photo that I didn't know about. Thanks for your reply. @RNKLN Yes. There's Gaussian blur in designer also (layer effect) but you can't get a varying gradient blur effect with it like your example. Thanks for your reply.
