Feature equivalence iPadOS and MacOSX?

Recommended Posts

In the description it says

Just as feature-packed as the desktop version

but it doesn't say that the same features exist in the versions for each OS, just that there are as many.  Can you confirm whether everything I can do in the Mac oSX version cab be done the same in the iPadOS version.  I'm looking for a flexible tool to try and match the style of some previous artwork, I've used Draw plus for years but not had a need to do design work again until recently.  If I can do the same in both then I can evaluate the product using the iPad version

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

You can evaluate  the product for 10 days free of charge using the desktop version. You cannot use the iPad version at all unless you purchase it.

So, assuming you own a Mac, I would suggest evaluating using the desktop version, as it has the free trial. That trial runs continuously from the first time you start the application after installation, but if you then purchase directly from Serif you'll have an additional 14-day return window.

I cannot comment of feature parity, but I believe there are desktop functions not yet implemented in the iPad versions of the Affinity applications. And, as the interfaces are quite different, even the functions that are common to both will be used somewhat differently, though the concepts should be the same.

I have all three apps for Mac. Do I also need to purchase the iPad apps?

If you want to use them on your iPad, yes.

I’ll weigh in here, They really are close to being equal. Like 99% close, however the functionality or approach is slightly different from desktop to iPad, but you start to get a feel for it. I think Affinity has done a ton of work on figuring this approach out. It took me awhile to get my head around it but its working for me. The few things that desktop does better or completely different, well then just jump to the desk top and do it there. I find my self going the other way, starting on desktop and realizing this is child’s play on the iPad with Pencil.

The apps are inexpensive enough, and if you are worried about having to get up and go over to your Mac just fire up AstroPad, (coming soon for PC) its worth its cost by 3 times easily to me. Runs about $80 year subscription for the pro studio.
