iconoclast Posted January 10, 2021 Share Posted January 10, 2021 Hi, I have a verry fundamental question. I bought Affinity Publisher and Affinity Photo on the Microsft Store about a week ago. I didn't get any Installation files, the installation started directly from the store. So I wonder what would happen if I would need to install it again. I had a verry bad bluescreen some month ago, that forced me to reinstall my complete OS (Windows 10) and all programs. What if that would happen again? Could I reinstall Affinity via my Affinity- or my Microsoft-Account or would I have to buy Affinity again? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
GarryP Posted January 10, 2021 Share Posted January 10, 2021 Any items – software etc. – which you buy in the Microsoft Store are linked to (stored in) your Microsoft Store account and should be re-installable at any time via the store (unless Microsoft has, for some reason, made them unavailable since you last installed them). You should not need to re-purchase store items that you have already paid for. If you do have trouble re-installing from the Microsoft store then the problem will probably be down to something that Microsoft has done, unless you have moved to a different machine that isn’t compatible with those previously-purchased items. GarryP Posted January 10, 2021 Share Posted January 10, 2021 You’re welcome. I didn’t purchase from the Microsoft Store so I can’t comment on any problems other people might have had with it. If you have reinstalled Windows and updated it to the latest version – including .NET – then you shouldn’t have a problem re-installing the software on the same machine, but if you do there are various FAQs in the relevant area of these forums which might help. My work PC only allows me to install software via the Microsoft Store - so Photo was fine. I'm not allowed to install downloaded apps....but I am able to install apps from Microsoft Store. I don't know if this is by design or if it's a mistake. Perhaps they trust all MS Store apps? But you've already answered my question thank you. If I really want Designer on my work PC then I may have to re-purchase it via the MS Store.... I don't know if this is by design or if it's a mistake. This is a setting within Windows 10 that can be changed - provided your work IT admin (or whoever controls your work PC) allows this. Please see the below article for how to change this to allow app installs from outside the Microsoft store - https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=IWKKPZkMLD6dxzny6ksCK9 As noted at the bottom of this article, if you're running Windows 10S then the only way to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store is to upgrade to Windows 10, though I believe this is a free upgrade.
