Affinity Designer Customer Beta 1.9.0 (1.9.8)

Recommended Posts

Status: Beta

Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer for iPad From App Store

App Store:  Not submitted

Download link: Join the TestFlight

Hello,

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the Affinity Designer Beta 1.9.0 for iPad.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is significantly different from the 1.8.6 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Designer.

Thanks again for your continued support!

Matt

Changes This Time

- New splash screen
- Numerous contour related fixes
- Fix for Transform studio being incorrect and not allowing access to Constraints
- Removed Package feature for now
- Added Export Timelapse video
- Added Snapping to Pixel Selection Bounds
- Help improvements

Changes Since 1.8.6

- Added Export Preview in the Export dialog
- Fix for colour-picker not working correctly in brush tools
- Fix a number of potential symbol-related problems
- Text improvements - particularly relating to mid-word punctuation
- Snapping tweaks - you can now snap to column guides if they're hidden and you have 'snap to hidden objects' turned on
- Added hierarchical antialiasing control - accessed from the Layer Options view in the layers studio
- New cat shape (accessible on Friday 13th)
- Fix for printing of passthrough PDFs
- Misc PDF export tweaks
- Fix for Column Guides not updating correctly
- PDF Import improvements (particularly around tinted colours and unknown fonts)
- Application registration and content streaming (see post below)
- Fix for pixel layers inside symbols occasionally acting incorrectly (painting may not apply to all symbol instances, items may transform oddly, for example)
- Fixed sporadic crash with Pencil Tool (yay!) and hopefully generally improved product stability
- Fix for artefacts occasionally noticed in the noise pattern while editing objects with noise on a linear fill
- Added option for Designer to be able to show/hide overflow text - particularly useful for text on a path
- Fix for terrible rendering problems - particularly affected cropped items with layer effects applied
- Added Contour tool.
- Select Same / Select Object functionality. I'm happy to consider requests for extra options, so if you have a favourite, just say...
- Improved performance with large documents. I will aim to improve this further over time.
- Added a new “Divide” blend mode.
- Allowed snapping to the bounds of the pixel selection.

Thanks so much for the export preview. That helps a ton. The iPad implement ion is even much better than the Desktop one I think. :) Great Job :)

BTW love the new Splash Screens, they are so 2021 already my fave :)

This still beta incorrectly renders a file which I created in the MAS version of the app. Do you want me to upload the file to a private dropbox?

If you could that would be great! I've created a Dropbox link below. Is it a case of just opening the file on both and its immediately obvious or is the difference a lot more subtle? If so could you also attach a screenshot indicating the areas of difference.
Thanks!

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

When I open a old document (1.8) the colours will be different.

As carl123 has pointed out your second (AD1.9 document) is using Uncoated Fogra29. If you changed the colour profile with Convert enabled, it will have converted the original colours to match that profile so the CMYK values will no longer 'Match' up.

Hey @Sean P

So the file that is not rendering properly is actually the JPG I exported from AD beta and then opened in the new AD beta. It’s not an issue with AD beta misrendering the MAS Affinity Designer file as originally reported. Sorry for the confusion I just noticed that. So it’s that JPG (and PNG) exports are messing up character spacing settings.

I uploaded a screenshot of how the JPG should export, the incorrectly rendering JPG, and the master AD file. In the master file there are several art boards. The one you want to look at is the last one on the lower right. MAS version renders the PDF correctly.
Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for the files - I've installed the Konstruktor font on my iPad and the artboards look and display correctly when exported. Would you mind uploading the font you've got installed on your iPad please?

Sean I just uploaded the font file. Hope u can replicate

Thanks for that, unfortunately that is also working correctly for me - have you tried it in one of the newer betas and is it the same? If so could you try removing and re-adding the font, also what process have you used to install the font - is it done via Affinity or a different app altogether.
