Every project is a learning experience. The glow around the moon is an eclipse with gaussian blur (max) and then I added a vignette (and some masking to avoid it showing where I didn't want it).

I think this helped a bit making the glow look a bit more realistic.

I don’t see any signs of an eclipse, unless you count the lower part of the moon being eclipsed by the birdbath.

Well, not a green planet but rather a green halo that comes from a bit of glass misalignment in a lens I used or the adapter (a lens from back in my film days adapted to my Canon). You'll also notice it is rather poorly focused. The image lacks the sharp detail that should be there when shooting with a 300mm zoom.
