Workbook - keine Begeisterung

Recommended Posts

The files provided for that section of the book:

Also, the book states:

Quota

The resources in this project are Affinity Publisher templates that you can populate with your own sourced imagery.

Yes. That happens often with the various Affinity file types, on Windows. Only one application can be shown as associated with the filetype, and I think Windows shows the most recently installed application that says it can handle it.

Strange, at least for .afpub files. - On my older MacOS system it always keeps the right filetype assiociations for those.

Yes, that's how it is and always has been on Windows.

The icon/name of the application that is associated with the extension is always displayed, ie that is launched when the file is double-clicked.

Yes, but @v_kyr was pointing out (I think) the .afpub file that Windows claims is associated with Designer in my screenshot above:

Yes, that's what I saw in your screenshot above @walt.farrell and wondered about it!

Yes, but this is "your" incorrect OS extension settings. If you notice, I responded to v_kyr, who is surprised that Windows does not display the application icon/names associated with the extension. Displays - just have it set correctly, see my screenshot.

Yes, and depending on which applications I have installed, and what order I have installed them in, mine will sometimes be correct, too.

Sorry Walt, but no! It is incorrect explanation/assumption. If this were the way you write, then always "all" extensions would be associated with the last installed application.

Edit: try in File Explorer - Open With, Choose Other application, select "right" Affinity application, and set "Always this application".

I've noticed you're using the Beta version. I do not. The main reason why I don't use them is Serifs reluctance to take into account the needs of users, when the violent association of extensions to the beta version brings me an unacceptable risk of editing the file in the wrong/beta version, and thus devaluing it for opening/editing in the standard version.

Maybe the association with beta versions and their subsequent expiration, or even uninstallation, brings your problems and confusion with the associated applications. I, because I don't install beta, never have these problems - the association is always on the right application.

The beta versions warn you when you open a non-beta document, and offer to treat it as a new unnamed copy, or cancel, or continue using the non-beta document. So I consider it safe to have the betas installed. (Though, I think there was a bug with the 1.9 beta for awhile and it was not warning, it is doing so reliably now, for me.)

Also, I normally use File > Open, rather than double-clicking in File Explorer, and thus I know exactly which application I'm using at all times.
