ArtisticSoup Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Hello. I wrote this question yesterday and received that my camera will work but now how to make them work so here is the question again. I just downloaded a trial of Affinity Photo. I am trying to determine if I can replace Photoshop before the trial ends. I shoot in RAW. My cameras are a Canon 6D Mark 2 and a Canon 5D Mark 4. When trying to import my RAW Cr2 files into Affinity Photo I received a notification that this format is not supported. So then I converted the files to DNG and tried to open in Affinity Photo which also did not work - not supported. You have confirmed that it should work but I need step by step HOW to make it work. If there is something else I need to download, what is the name, where exactly do I find it (give me link) and how do I install it. Thank you. I like everything else and want to purchase if I can get this to work. Quote
emmrecs01 Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 @ArtisticSoup I saw your other post, which included a link to the list of supported cameras. The list of those using the Serif RAW engine includes both your cameras, so I am a little surprised to read that you have been unsuccessful in opening their RAW files. I know the trial versions of Affinity apps are limited only by the length of time the trial can be used for, not by some feature or other being unavailable. So, I wonder why you are experiencing this problem? Is there something "different" about these RAWs? I regularly open Canon CR2 files from my 600D in Affinity Photo, without problem. If you are on a MAC, I understand the Serif RAW engine is the default but there is the alternative available to you of the Apple RAW engine which I believe does not currently support your cameras. is it possible you have tested this with only the Apple engine? Delighted to be using Affinity Designer, Photo, and now Publisher, version 1 and now version 2. iPad Pro (12.9") (iOS 18.2) running Affinity Photo and Designer version 1 and all three version 2 apps.
v_kyr Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Both cams are listed at least to be supported by Affinity Photo (see here for the Affinity libraw based RAW engine, and further by the Apple MacOS RAW engine since MacOS High Sierra). - Which MacOS version do you use? How do you open the cr2 RAW files in Affinity Photo? - Just try "File > Open" from the Develop Persona Did you tried inside Affinity Photo what happens if you change the RAW engine to use from Serif to Apple? Dave G. Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I'm moving more into studio photography and have a paid copy of Affinity Photo. I would like to have a real-time view of the photos I take and was wondering, with the right cable, can I take photos in my studio and have them come up in Affinity Photo? - Canon 6D MkII Quote
