br06
Hello everyone, I have a big problem with affinity PUBLISHER. I imported a PDF file to edit it. I made a background and applied text styles on some texts. Everything was ok. And then without warning impossible to select most of the texts on my page. The only way is to click on the layers. I have about 100 layers and it's impossible to work this way... Please help me, how can I select my texts in the page again with the normal section or text tools? Thank you for your precious help. walt.farrell
From the large X across the page, I suspect you have a Picture Frame above those text objects in the Layers panel stack. (Further, I suspect that your background image is not placed in that Picture Frame properly, or the X would not be there.) With that many layers, though, it will be difficult for us to see from a screenshot what is above your text layer that is preventing it from being selected. Pšenda
Because it is not completely obvious in your screenshot, so for explanation - this is this Pixel Frame which just above the Text Frame, so the text can not be selected. wonderings
definitely something weird there. Are you saying you did not create this from scratch in Publisher but are editing a PDF that was designed in another program? What program was the original PDF made with? Are you able to supply that PDF as well to see if we can reproduce this?
walt.farrell
Even with the upper layer in place, I am able to double click on individual text items with the Move Tool or the Frame Text Tool to select them. I'm surprised that the upper layer doesn't prevent this, and I can't explain why it works, but it does (for me). br06
yes here is the original PDF file that was made from openOffice. I specify that at the beginning the text zones were selectable with the move tool. Thanks for your help it drives me crazy

wonderings
I am going to say the issue is the PDF itself. I could get it to select things but not easily. Personally I would probably just reset at this point and do it properly rather then have a file that is a nightmare to work with and you need to fight in order to do what you want to do. br06
But when I create a new text space on the document where the error occurs, I can't select it again at ..... Do you think my file is corrupted ? it's really weird anyway... It could be corrupted or just Publisher not playing nice with a PDF made from OpenOffice. I have found OpenOffice to not be all that great with projects in the past and dread files from OpenOffice more then I do from Microsoft Office. This is why I think you are better off setting up from scratch. It will take a bit more time but you will have a file you can work with and edit easily if any changes/alterations come back after sending out a proof. MickRose
I have found that on the 2nd page clicking any text with the text tool always selects the bottom right frame. But I have used the Designer persona to change to outline mode and then the text blocks become selectable as normal in either Designer or Publisher personas. MickRose
Not really, other than the idea that the PDF is the problem rather than AfPub. Quote Windows 10 Pro, I5 3.3G PC 16G RAM
markw
I don’t know if this really helps any but out of curiosity I have just had a quick play with the source PDF, provided earlier in this thread, in APub 1.8.6 and then again in the 1.9 Beta. In 1.8 virtually nothing is selectable on the second page without going into Outline Mode, as suggested by MickRose In 1.9 beta all the second page text would seem to be editable without any obvious issues. I didn’t have a lot of the fonts used in the PDF, so just went with the font replacements as offered on import. But it worked. So it would seem to me that APub is doing something different and/or better in the Beta version, than in the current retail version?
