Hi as a lifelong user of all serif products.  I am familiar with desktop publishing and have made the transition to affinity publisher.

I have a problem with the TOC , I have set up as per instructions  fine. but it does not display page numbers . ( it has sections and page number master pages ) I have the manual and successfully recreated the Alice book with TOC displaying correctly but this does not work with my own book  re page no’s? I tried several work rounds and  variantions. Any ideas or tips welcomed

Also how heck do you replace 60:pages of filler text ?  Thanks

Have you asked for page numbers in the TOC panel? In 1.8 there's a check-box before the style name to ask for the style to be included, and a check-box after the style name to ask for the page numbers to be included:
