Templates – Folder path gives access to invisible system folders

Recommended Posts

Defining ("Add") a template folder displays every subfolder of a selected object in APub's internal folder structure.

Unfortunately APub also displays folders which are by macOS's default and in purpose invisible / inaccessible, e.g. for security reasons / to avoid confusion caused by manual user actions within these folders. (e.g. all user/Library content or the entire start disk, including Library and System folders).

APub also displays a single database file as folder structure and seems to enable the user to choose any of the displayed database subfolders as template folder which possibly causes issues when working with the database file in its initial application. (e.g. catalog files of DAM apps like Lightroom and CaptureOne).

Even if this way of accessing folders is no bug ("it's up to the user not to 'add' any of those folders") this behavior of APub may cause quite harmful results and therefore should not be enabled "by design".

Samples of folders which can get offered by APub to be chosen as template folder:
(both are by macOS not accessible for the user. the first is a system folder, the second seems to be a local backup folder within the user library)

After all I wonder if the current solution is necessary in its complexity. Like users know where they save their .afpubs they also might have in mind where .aftemplates are stored. Both types are accessible via the "Open..." dialog anyway. Unfortunately the template previews don't show up in a finder window (different to .afpub previews) but in APubs template view only – vice versa APub neither displays creation or modification dates nor file sizes in its template view.
