Padma1830 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 I am an inexperienced user, new to Affinity and also a new Wacom tablet owner. My problem is, when I am working on a document on the canvas it can move unexpectedly, presumably because I have inadvertently placed my hand on the tablet in a way which the tablet interprets as a move gesture. In other ways it’s great as I can easily move the document around the canvas or pan around a close up area in a document, but sometimes I want the document to stay exactly where it is. This sensitivity to my hand placement, and sudden unexpected movement is making the software unusable for a beginner like me. Is there anyway I can lock/pin the document to the canvas and just have zoom function? Quote
GarryP Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Welcome to the forums @Padma1830 Have you thought about using something like these gloves: https://yourartpath.com/14-best-drawing-gloves-for-tablet-and-ipad Quote
Padma1830 Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Thank for your response GarryP. I have seen these and will get one as it states they reduce ‘palm rejection’ to a minimum. This may help, but I also find the same issue with my Magic Mouse, though less so. Is there no simple function to toggle on and off? i.e. pin/unpin the document to the canvas when I am working on detail. Quote
GarryP Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 You’re welcome. I didn’t know about those gloves until quite recently when I watched someone using one in a video. It took me a while to realise that it wasn’t just some strange fashion thing. I don’t think there’s an option to ‘lock’ the ‘pan’ of the document in the desktop versions of the software but there may be one in the iPad versions (I don’t have an iPad to check) where use of a touchscreen is inescapable. If there is one in the iPad versions then it might be possible to add it to the desktop versions. If there is not one in the iPad versions then maybe it could be something which is implemented in the future and copied over to the desktop versions. Either way it sounds like something that you might want to switch on/off easily – rather than going into a menu or dialog every time – so it could be a contender for a new Toolbar icon on the desktop versions, perhaps. Padma1830 Posted December 17, 2020 Author Posted December 17, 2020 Agree. A simple toggle button on the toolbar would be great. I am currently working my way through the Affinity Designer Workbook (I really am a beginner) and the most frustrating thing I am encountering is keeping my document on the canvas. It goes shooting off at seemingly random times. I guess its about technique and experience in using the software etc. but at this stage, for me, pinning it down would really help. Quote
GarryP Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I wonder if someone can come up with a good reason why it should be implemented for use with non-touchscreen devices. Maybe there’s a type of workflow which could benefit from having that option. Instead of having an extra icon on the Toolbar, we could have a ‘lock/unlock icon’ at the lower-value part of each scrollbar (top of vertical and left of horizontal) with a ‘both-ways lock/unlock’ icon at the bottom-right (in the gap that is there anyway). That way the user could lock scrolling as they wanted and it wouldn’t impinge on the rest of the UI much. Quote
