Bernty Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Getting the "Side by side configuration is incorrect" error when trying to update publisher. Get it on anything 1.8 and and up but 1.7 .* works ok. Updated C++ and and did just about everything I could find on the net to solve this error. Tried it on two computers and got the same result. peterbwill Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Note to self don't mess with the Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributables in the Apps & features list of Win 10 😮 I ended up having to install 18 of them from various years from 2005 to 20017 not knowing which one was affecting the Affinity Update. Also they don't take effect with just a windows restart you have to shut down and power start. Also doing a Visual C++ install from Microsoft can take hours here is a site that has a neat app to reinstall all the needed Redistu's in a few minutes with no headaches https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/solved_the_application_has_failed_to_start_because_its_side_by_side_configuration_is_incorrect_error.html my issue was resolved thanks. Bernty Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Although not done yet as I have done more than 90% of all the recommendations here as well as on other places on the net and, still no luck. Makes my wonder why a program would be released that require a certain version of C++ without specifying or including that version. Quite disappointed and will probably live with the 1.7 version. peterbwill Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 @SKEtrip as i mentioned above check to make sure you have all the C++ distributions check https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/solved_the_application_has_failed_to_start_because_its_side_by_side_configuration_is_incorrect_error.html for a possible solution. If still no go check https://www.google.com/search?q=side-by-side+configuration+site%3Aforum.affinity.serif.com as suggested by Pšenda Quote
SKEtrip Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 C++ is good. checking the event log there is a syntax error on line 0, Invalid xml syntax: Quote
peterbwill Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Check if line 0 is missing any characters like example I found on a search similar to the error you're getting Quote
SKEtrip Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Thanks for the answers. However I'm over an hour into this & and quite done. Appreciate the attempts to help the windows challenged. The Best to All. Quote
mwvenn Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 I had this error - tried tweaking C++ libraries, re-downloading, using different browsers etc etc etc, all to no avail. Finally discovered a simple solution. I downloaded the file onto an Android machine (a Nexus tablet), then copied it onto my Windows machine. It installed perfectly. This approach worked with both Publisher and Photo. It also worked with WebPlus 8 that I needed but could never manage to get installed. What the problem is, I don't know. All I can imagine is that somewhere the file is getting scrambled in the download onto a Windows machine. (I am getting a similar problem with a website). Quote

dlsturdivant Posted June 16, 2021 Posted June 16, 2021 Kudos MWVENN...your approach worked great. I downloaded the install file to my Android tablet, connected to my Surface Pro 7 and installed Affinity Photo without issue....go figure Quote
Bernty Posted June 17, 2021 Author Posted June 17, 2021 Thought I mentioned it at the time but I used Win 7 to download and then move the file to a win 10 and it installed OK. Quote
