Click here to download the latest beta

Status: Customer Beta
Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes
Requirements: A valid product key (for Affinity Store purchases), or an installation of the full retail version from the Microsoft Store

As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents. We hope you enjoy the latest build, and as always, if you've got any problems, please don't hesitate to post a new thread in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Thanks once again for your continued feedback.

If you have a general question about the software, please head over to the Questions Forum, or if you have any suggestions, please head over to the Feature Requests forum.

Please can users of this beta look at the My Account feature (top right of the main toolbar) even if you have already done so recently in another recent beta.

We have now added the ability to link your Affinity app to your Affinity account through a new app registration process. This will have the advantages of you being able to stream any content you have purchased (or received for free from the Affinity store) directly to all your apps without having to manually install them. This is of particular use to customers who have more than one of our apps, or run our apps on different devices and operating systems as all your content will automatically be available across all of them.

If you register the beta app you will initially receive a free brush kit (the luminance brush kit) for testing purposes. This might be a kit you already have, but if you don’t you will get it for free. Over the next few weeks this will be expanded to include all of the store content you may already own.

There have been lots of behind the scene improvements and more of the purchasable and (historical) free claimable content is being added. PLEASE report anything you find using "My Account" IN THAT THREAD

Care to elaborate?

Try File > Place in Designer 1.8, and then select multiple image files from the File Explorer dialog, and click Open. Observe behavior.

Compare with the same in Publisher 1.8.

Now try it in the new 1.9 Designer beta :)

You need to choose more than 1 image

That's what I did.. I'll test on another computer, but for now I didn't see any difference from placing with 1.8

Can i retain my current version while checking out the beta version?

Yes,  the beta will install as a separate application - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is significantly different from the 1.8.x version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Designer.

Brexit is nearly done, so customs clearance gets a bit slow. No idea, for me fast as ever.

Download of all beta-versions is extremely slow since some days:

I experienced the same in the last days (download estimate of 60 days!) and I've hardly ever seen this before. But download of the latest beta went quick as always. There must be some strange hiccups going on somewhere but I don't think it's Serif's server.

I posted awhile ago about an issue with the node tool introduced in 1.8.4, and as of this latest beta, the issue is still there for me.

(The issue is that clicking a node and then clicking to drag it is now recognised as a 'doubleclick' that does nothing. Video in the thread.)

We're multiple versions later now, so I'm wondering if this is something that's planned to be fixed in the future, or if it only affects a few people, or whatever. I'm honestly surprised I couldn't find anything about it, because it's made all versions beyond 1.8.3 completely unusable for me, which is a huge shame.

  • 2 weeks later...

There's a bug in Windows version with zoomimg out via SPACE-ALT-Keys with active pen tool or brush tool. This issue exists since some versions ago and is still in this beta.

When using the pen or the brush tool it's not possible to zoom out by pressing SPACE+ALT. Zomming in by pressing SPACE+CTRL works fine.

Actually it works. Only when holding SPACE+CTRL, then click but not release, finally push down ALT and release left button to zoom out.

I have posted 2 topics related to this problem and ... seems they do not think this would be a bug.

Hi Chessboard,
We're aware of this issue and it is with development to be fixed.

Hi Umiama,

I've just responded in your initial post, but this was something I had passed on to development, but I must have got sidetracked and forgot to reply to your post. Please accept my apologies, but I assure you its with development, and also thank you for taking the time to report this issue to us.
