Hello folks,

I have the following situation: I have opened a file that I created with Affinity Publisher on the PC with Affinity Designer on the Ipad. In this document of Affinity Publisher the images and PDF files are linked. I have collected the images and PDF documents separately in folders. Now I loaded all the files on the Ipad and wanted to continue working on the .afpub document on the go with Affinity Designer. Opening it was no problem, but the attempt to relink the images and PDF documents fails. I have not found any such function.😬 Will the function to relink files on Affinity Designer (Ipad) be possible soon? As long as Affinity Publisher for Ipad is not yet available, such a possibility would be really helpful to work on the go with .afpub files on Ipad with Affinity Designer to have a halfway decent solution in between. Either way, this feature is actually a must-have.

Otherwise, kudos to the team for the new Affinity Publisher workbook. I'm reading it right now and am thrilled with the painstakingly appealing work you've done with the book. 👏

Designer in 1.8 has full support only for Embedded files/images, not for Linked ones.

On the desktop, if you open a .afpub file in Designer, and the files need to be relinked, you get a prompt that will let you open the Resource Manager to relink them. This is only possible as the file is being opened.

That function may not exist yet on the iPad versions, but Serif or someone with an iPad would need to confirm that.

Also on the desktop, the 1.9 beta of Designer has functions to allow both Linked files and relinking them. The 1.9 beta of Photo on iPad does not yet have those functions, and there is no Designer beta yet. I don't know if those functions will come to the iPad versions in 1.9 or not, though they might arrive when Publisher for the iPad becomes available.

Exactly what I feared. I am aware that there is a possibility to do this on the desktop applications. Also, that the .afpub on the Ipad with Affinity Designer can display all content without problems, as long as that content is embedded, I am also aware. However, I was asking specifically for Affinity Designer on the Ipad. I find it rather nonsensical that I have to make sure the content is embedded every time. Being able to link is clearly the better and more resource efficient solution. Especially when many different documents can access the same content.🤔

Looks like I can now completely forget about continuing to work on the road, since I would have to have the embedding done on the PC at home (which would be unnecessary, because when I continue to work at home, I work with the desktop applications and not the Ipad).

The seamless work on the road probably works with the Affinity apps only conditionally, or if you know exactly the detours. But the Serif team can be forgiven for that. These quirks will be fixed sooner or later. So the Affinity team is doing a great job. All this with an annual budget, what Adobe has in a day^^.
