I opened a file that contained two art boards. I clicked on a layer on the second art board and choose to edit the item in Affinity Publisher. Focusing on Publisher, I closed Designer and saved the work completed.

I can see the layers I created on the second art board and, strangely, the very last layer I worked on on the 1st art board, but lost 50 other images from the 1st art board.

How can I get these images back. Disclaimer, I did NOT use Time Machine nor did I save the file with document history. I know... Is there anyway I can reset the application to look and appear the way it did with the exact layers etc that I had yesterday?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :)

Since the file has been saved from moving from Designer to Publisher and not with any history or backup file to revert to I don't believe so. It depends on how you mean by "lost", are they referenced on the Layers panel under the 1st artboard? If so, if you click the layer what becomes selected in the workspace/artboards? Something else to try if they are showing on the Layers panel is to check with the Resource Manager in Publisher.

i too am devastated. I made a change (masters related) saved and closed after a 18 hour day and alas - so much progress I have worked for on my 162 page doc is gone. I have a backup from 7/4/2021 and a printed copy from 8/12/2021 but I am really heartbroken. I had done so much work and have no idea how to get it back if i ever can.

So should save with History just be the DEFAULT save feature? This is a creative work and I am not feeling well so I am not sure if I will ever be able to actually recreate it but it will take me at least 2 weeks to try to get close to where I was.

Appreciate the feedback.

In what way is it "gone"?  Are you unable to open the file or does the file open but the changes aren't there?
