AD image update

Having made a document in AD and placed text and images, I later amended some of the images and cannot find an 'updater' in AD. This used to be a feature when I used Adobe Creative Suite and assume AD has the facility too.

Edit: In 1.8 you are using Embedded files, not Linked files, and so you would need to Replace the file to get the updated version.

With the Move Tool active, and the item selected, you should have a Replace Image button on the Context Toolbar:

(This assumes you are using 1.8, and that you have an Image (PNG, JPG, TIFF). With Other file types or releases things may be different.)

Perhaps we should expand a bit and add that in APub, the Resource Manager would do the auto update (if the placed images were linked). And the 1.9 beta of Designer purports to add that same ability.

Yes, the 1.9 beta does adds two functions that may be relevant here:

1. The ability to have Linked files, not just Embedded; and
2. The ability to have them updated automatically if a Linked file is modified externally.

But for Embedded images such as 1.8 supports, one needs to use the Replace button to get a changed file loaded into the document.

I am using version 1.8.6, so the  'automatically if a Linked file is modified externally' is not an option and I assume we will have to wait until an updated version is available in AD.
