U. Dinser
More than a year ago I praised Affinity Designer. Unfortunately, until today, some important errors have not been corrected. Hyphenation does not work, words are not separated despite the correct language setting, and quotes are typographically misplaced. Also the view mode "Show special characters" is missing. I addressed these things all before, unfortunately without success. This makes me a bit skeptical about the continued expansion of Affinity programs. I don't understand why such important improvements are not implemented. Although I have bought all the programs, I have not yet realized any project with them. I hope that version 2.0 will see decisive improvements here.
walt.farrell
Automatic hyphenation is, at this time, a function enabled only in Publisher. You can make it work in Designer, but only if you use Publisher to enable it in the document. There is a bug which enables one of the hyphenation controls to display in Designer, but none of them should be present there. If you're using enough text that you need automatic hyphenation I would recommend using Publisher, which has several text-related functions that Designer does not have. dominik 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
U. Dinser
Hello Walt, thanks for the reply. I often produce (with Adobe Illustrator) extensive diagrams. Therefore I depend on a working text module. Sifting special characters (e.g. tabs) are as important as a diagram module. Well, I hope for the next version of Affinity Designer. Gamtak
Hi, I think its related to the used language you want to hypen. In Dutch bookdesign you still need InDesign till Affinity supports it. I am happy with AfPub, but for now its only usefull to productions with less than six pages. Gamtak

Publisher should handle hyphenation in Dutch if you've installed the Dutch dictionaries, including the hyphenation dictionary. Gamtak
Thanks for your comment. I installed the 'Dutch (Nederlands) language' and found it in my AFpub textstyle window. (see my screenshots below), but still, it wont work; nothing happens... [even the English language selected, hypens better than selected de Dutch. Is there stil something missing, or did I still something wrong? Can I remove as a try "Info.plist"? Gamtak Hi Walt,
walt.farrell
Where did you get the dictionaries? How did you download them? Which files did you install? Your screenshot seems to show only a file named nl-dict-v2.0, but the correct files would be the three I have marked below: Also, you don't have them in the place I would expect to see them, as instructed in the FAQ: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
