brush tool in mask layer doesn't work

I have a mask layer where I wanna delete small parts with the paint brush tool in black. It doesn't work. And it doesn't matter if I select white or black. Both doesn't work.

I have selected the mask layer, chose black... Is that a bug or is the bug in may head? ;-)

At the right end of the context toolbar click on the >> icon & see if in the menu that pops up "Protect Alpha" is ticked. If it is, try unticking it.

Thanks a lot!!! I thought the checkbox within the visible toolbox would be the one to click or unclick.
