I came across a few problems when exporting files as PDF (for printing). These are the issues with my PDF files reported by different printshops.

1. Even though I manually convert all text to curves, Designer seems to attatch fonts to PDF anyway. When I open the PDF in Designer, everything is OK, no text. I know there is the "embed fonts" dropdown in export menu, but it seems weird to me that the program would add fonts to the pdf when everything was converted to curves. I have sent a pdf with "text as curves" selected in export menu, waiting for an answer from the printshop if it's OK now.
The only thing I notice while opening the PDF in Designer is that I didn't convert rectangles to curves and I have Layers - one is called "lines" and it's the area of the print (the rectangle with stroke) and the other called "project" is the project for print itself. Can this be causing the problems?

2. Designer rasterises the project.
I have simple plain curves design created (it's a a simple text converted to curves). No special effects like shadows, gradients, 3D or anything. There is also no bitmap whatsoever in the project. Yet, the printshop claims that the PDF I sent is a bitmap, not curves. I looked at the export menu and there is the option to rasterise nothing/everything/unsupported properties and the last one is checked when I export the PDF, but there should be no "usupported properties" in the file since it's simple curves.
I have no idea what causes this :(

Hi @aj_graphic,
1. It's possible there may be some text object somewhere you may have not noticed. Any chance you can upload the original afdesign file from which you generated the PDF? Anyway setting the text as curves in the Export dialog should take care of the issue.

2. Again any chance you can provide the afdesign file to be checked?

I can provide an upload link if you wish to keep the file private. Thank you

Here you go. File 01 was the one with text and not curves, and the second one is the one with bitmap problem edit: that's a different file than the one I described in my post, but the problem is the same. I have made over 10 files today and all of them had one of the problems I mentioned :/

Hi aj_graphic,
1. I'm not seeing any embedded fonts when i export your file01 to PDF (see screenshot below)/there's no text in the document. Where are you seeing them listed/what PDF viewer are you using?

2. What PDF preset or custom settings are you using? Can you attach a screenshot of the More dialog in PDF Export. The file is not being rasterised for me on export. All vector objects remain intact as vectors as well. Are you ruisng macOS or Windows?

I’m not seeing any text layers when I open the *.afdesign file.

I'm on Windows, this is so weird :/
It's the printshops that told me to convert text to curves in my pdfs. And it happened with multiple print shops so it's not a matter of someone opening the PDF wrong or something. As I said, when I open the "bad" PDF file in Designer again, I have the "gropu lines of text.." checked as if there was text in that file??

Before I was notified of this issue, I used the default "PDF - for print" set up while exporting. I might've unchecked "include hyperlinks".

EDIT:

I also checked the PDfs I sent to printshops with Acrobat and there aren't any fonts in them either (in the Fonts window there is nothing written but I can select the first blank line, don't know if that's connected to the problem or if it's just standard for Acrobat)

It's in polish, but "czcionki" is "fonts"

Just wanted to report that selecting Rasterize: Nothing and Embed fonts: Text as Curves seems to fix the problems. I would still want to know what caused these weird problems tho 🙄
BTW, Corel Draw doesn't open the "bad" PDF files at all, I'm getting a "file is damaged" error.
